Snapchat Launches AI Selfie Feature ‘Dreams’—Is It Free?

-

Snapchat has previously announced that the official app will lend some help from OpenAI’s most popular AI-powered app: ChatGPT.

Now, the company is venturing into another AI-related feature dubbed “Dreams.” Snap believes that this could be the “next big revolution” following the arrival of Lenses in 2015.

What is Snapchat Dreams?

(Photo: Alexander Shatov from Unsplash) Snapchat has dropped some information about “Dreams,” a next-gen AI selfie feature with “recent advancements.”

The power of generative AI is seen across social media with Meta making the biggest move out of them all. However, Snap is catching up with the rest as it continues to integrate AI with its app.

According to a report by The Verge, Snapchat has launched its AI-focused selfie feature that borrows some elements from the Lensa app.

With Dreams, you can upload your high-quality selfies in eight packs. You have the option to use the themes and incorporate them with your chosen photos.

“We’ve always approached creating value for the Snapchat community by doing things that are playful, that are fun, [and] that are sometimes a little bit silly and a little bit weird. And I think Dreams really fit into that.” Snap’s VP of product Jack Brody told the news outlet.

For Snap, the “recent advancements” are to be awaited for this newly-launched AI feature.

Snapchat’s Dreams works almost similarly to other AI-based image generators. According to the firm, you can transform your current persona into a unique one whether it’s a doppelganger, royal, or nature lover concept.

Is Snapchat’s Dreams Free?

At the time, a report from The Verge managed to have early access to the selfie feature. According to Alex Heath, this will allow you to feel familiar with the typical facial recognition app on the phone.

Furthermore, he tested the fantasy pack to generate his desired images. In just 30 minutes, Dreams was able to upload pictures of him in elf, ocean-bound, and dragonborn themes.

Heath said that some photos did not look like exactly him, but the others could count as funny photos.

According to 9to5Mac, Snapchat users based in New Zealand and Australia can already use this feature. In the coming weeks, Dreams is expected to launch globally.

Before anything else, make sure that your Snapchat has the latest installed software. If you have an iPhone, you need to have iOS 12.4 or later to make it work.

Heath added that although custom prompts are not yet allowed by Snap for Dreams, more AI options are expected to arrive soon,

The Verge writer continued that you can’t use someone else’s selfie to generate your Dreams photos. This might hint that Sponsored Dreams for huge companies such as Pepsi and Disney are coming, as well.

Two weeks ago, some Snapchat “My AI” users were complaining about the chatbot glitch. According to them, the app generated bizarre responses. However, the company said that there was a disruption which affected the service.
