Stuck within the mud. A large container ship blocked one of many world’s busiest commerce routes for nearly every week when it turned diagonally wedged throughout the Suez Canal. The 400-metre-long Ever Given turned stranded on 23 March amid excessive winds and a sandstorm that lowered visibility. Efforts to dislodge the 200,000-tonne ship lasted days, and concerned a number of tugboats pushing and pulling the vessel, whereas dredgers labored to excavate sand from beneath its bow and stern. Hundreds of different ships, together with greater than 20 oil tankers, have been delayed by the blockage. Its results on world transport are troublesome to estimate, and may take months to resolve.
