This previous weekend, with little to do because of the pandemic, I marathoned by the Fast and Furious franchise. That was fortuitous timing, as a result of on Tuesday a new trailer dropped for F9, the following installment, which arrives in theaters on June 25.
We really received our first have a look at F9 effectively over a 12 months in the past, when the first trailer dropped at the end of January 2020. Family has been a central theme to the F&F motion pictures, and that continues right here. Dominic Torreto (performed by Vin Diesel) and the gang need to confront his youthful brother Jakob (John Cena), described as “probably the most expert murderer and high-performance driver they’ve encountered.” He’s working with prison mastermind Cipher (Charlize Theron), who sports activities a rather more flattering haircut than in Fate of the Furious, the film the place she improbably hacked a bunch of old cars to drive themselves.
Also returning to the sequence is Han Lue (Sung Kang), who all of us thought died on the finish of Tokyo Drift. (This was revealed to be the work of Deckard Shaw (Jason Stratham) who was unhealthy in Furious 7 however then turned out to be good in Fate of the Furious and Hobbs and Shaw.)
Based on this second trailer, the plot for F9 seems to contain magnets, and at one level Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) and Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) don makeshift stress fits and take to the skies in what could be a DeLorean with rocket boosters strapped to the roof.
As my colleague Jennifer Ouellette defined final 12 months, “F&F9 will most likely make about as a lot sense as its predecessors—in different phrases, not a lot sense in any respect. And followers would not have it some other approach.”
I do know I would not.
