“Our Summit is a time to celebrate community, share knowledge, and uplift the voices of Black mothers,” says Kiddada Green, Co-Creator of Black Breastfeeding Week and Founding Executive Director of BMBFA.  “Breastfeeding is both a cultural tradition and a health equity issue, and this event reflects our commitment to building supportive spaces where families can thrive.”  The Annual Summit is part of Black Breastfeeding Week (August 25–31), designed to raise awareness, spark dialogue, and strengthen support systems for Black families. The event is free and open to the public, with registration encouraged at www.bmbfa.org/bbw2025.

About Black Breastfeeding Week
Black Breastfeeding Week was launched in 2013 by Kiddada Green, Kimberly Seals Allers, and Anayah Sangodele-Ayoka to bring awareness to racial disparities in breastfeeding and to create space for Black voices, experiences, and leadership. What began as a vision to ensure Black families have the support, education, and advocacy they deserve has grown into a national movement. Observed annually during the last week of August, the week highlights the importance of culturally responsive care, the history of breastfeeding in Black communities, and the vital role of family and community support in promoting maternal and infant health.
