New first-gen iPad prototype images detail how Apple considered a ‘dual dock’ design – 9to5Mac

-

New images shared on Twitter this week declare to point out an early prototype of the primary-technology iPad. While we’ve seen prototype images of the original iPad before, these images present that Apple had considered a docking system of some type for the gadget…

The images had been shared on Twitter by the user Giulio Zompetti, who collects uncommon Apple units. He shared a trio of images showcasing a prototype iPad 1, and elaborated on a mysterious port positioned on the left-hand aspect of the gadget. This port seems to easily be a second 30-pin connection.

Initially, Apple was planning to characteristic a twin dock system on its first pill. The secondary port was located on the left aspect of the gadget. Concurrent charging was apparently supported.

According to Zompetti, the port was eliminated throughout a later DVT stage of improvement. For reference, Apple’s {hardware} improvement usually strikes by means of phases together with EVT (engineering validation check), DVT (design validation check), and PVT (manufacturing validation check).

This isn’t the primary we’ve heard about Apple’s intentions to ship the iPad 1 with two dock connectors. One of those prototypes was truly auctioned off on eBay in 2012, and studies through the years have indicated that Steve Jobs scrapped the thought comparatively near the iPad’s launch.

With the primary technology iPad, Apple did sell a Keyboard Dock separately for $69. This keyboard related to the iPad by way of its 30-pin port on the backside, and sadly it was a fairly brief-lived accent.

Nowadays, Apple has embraced this concept extra brazenly with the Smart Connector, which is used to energy and hook up with the Smart Keyboard and Magic Keyboard. While Apple initially probably had greater plans for the Smart Connector, we’ve truly seen very few third-party accessories that reap the benefits of it through the years.

Do you suppose the iPad would look completely different immediately if Apple had moved ahead with the twin-connectivity design of the iPad 1? Let us know down within the feedback!
