New Apple AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max Firmware Update

The Cupertino-based tech giant has started dishing out a new firmware update for all AirPods models, as per a report by 9to5 Mac. The latest version follows the previous update last year or in November 2022, to be more exact.

The November update goes by the firmware version number 5B58, whereas the new release is version 5B59.

So if you still have the previous version number, you are still stuck with the November release. The latest update should be rolling out by now.

But what does this new AirPods firmware update bring to the table?

What’s New in the Firmware Update 5B59?

It is worth noting that Apple consistently rolls out firmware updates for its various devices, which includes the AirPods.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – SEPTEMBER 07: Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller announces AirPods during a launch event on September 7, 2016 in San Francisco, California. Apple Inc. is expected to unveil latest iterations of its smart phone, forecasted to be the iPhone 7. The tech giant is also rumored to be planning to announce an update to its Apple Watch wearable device.

New releases typically tackle existing bugs and other performance issues. But in some cases, the renowned tech giant also dishes out new features via the firmware update.

As of writing, the iPhone maker has yet to publish the release notes for the latest AirPods update.

According to Mac Rumors, the tech firm actually takes time to give details about new AirPods firmware updates. And as such, it remains to be seen what the latest update offers its users.

But 9to5 Mac notes that the small change in the version number of the latest update suggests that the new release only comes with minor refinements. Perhaps a few bug fixes and overall performance enhancement.

How to Install the New AirPods Update

For now, AirPods users could instead check out if the new firmware update is already installed on their wireless earbuds.

Mac Rumors notes that Apple does not let AirPods users manually update their devices. The new firmware version automatically installs over the air once the tech behemoth starts rolling it out.

To check if your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max has gotten the update, follow these steps below.

Connect your AirPods to an iPhone or iPad. Then go to the Settings app, head to General, and select the About section. From there, tap AirPods to check its “Firmware Version.” If the latest update is already installed, it should be version 5B59 or higher.
