Genymobile, the creator behind Genymotion, an Android-based emulator, is now part of Shadow’s existing cloud gaming service.

According to the reports, the cloud computing firm officially acquired the French startup this week. It is expected that this move will boost Shadow’s projects related to Android development.

Shadow is making a huge move in the Android emulation industry after it successfully acquires Genymobile, the company which created Genymotion.

As TechCrunch reports on Friday, Jan. 20, Shadow finally sealed the deal with Genymobile after a successful acquisition.

For those unfamiliar with Genymobile’s brainchild, it’s a useful tool for developers who want to run an early test for their apps on Android. Simply, it’s an emulator for those who want to experiment with their configurations on their software.

At the moment, Shadow and Genymobile have not yet disclosed the terms of the deal.

Arnaud Dupuis, the CTO of Genymobile, said that his tenure with the company will continue. He will start his new role as the company’s chief executive on Mar. 1.

Meanwhile, Genymobile’s current CEO Tim Danford, will be assigned to become the firm’s advisor.

“We are very happy to announce this acquisition as the relationship built this past year with Genymobile has been pivotal to our progress in the development of the next-coming generation of our service,” Eric Sele, the founder of Shadow, said in a statement.

Sele added that the acquisition would hugely help the company in establishing its ambition in its own field. He also believed that this collaboration would bring “internal and external growth” to each of them.

How Genymotion Started as an Android Emulator

Just like other emulating software, Genymotion was first launched on Android as an emulator for desktop users.

If an organization needs to test its apps on a virtual platform, it needs to pay for a subscription to Genymotion.

Genymobile has rolled out several improvements to its emulation software over the past years. It even added a hosted version of the app, as well as added more features for web users.

Genymotion is not only limited to companies, as enterprise clients can also use the Android emulator to run their virtual devices.

They have a choice to test them out on several cloud platforms, including Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web, and Microsoft Azure, to name a few.

Genymobile does not only allow the developers to explore the Android development platform freely, but it also lets the teams correct what’s wrong with the app tests. Specifically, Genymotion notifies the developers if there are bugs on a particular device.

With Genymobile now under Shadow’s leadership, we expect to see more cloud computing developments along the way. Soon, we could see more companies running Genymotion on Android devices.
