NVIDIA’s AI Model Neuralangelo Can Instantly Turn Your 2D Videos into 3D Models

-

AI has so many tricks hidden in its sleeve and Nvidia knows how to bring exciting transformations of forgotten structures into a more sophisticated 3D model.

The American chipmaker has finally introduced Neuralangelo, a special AI model that makes 3D reconstruction a piece of cake thanks to the neural rendering of 2D video clips.

What Does Neuralangelo Do?

Neuralangelo can bring classic sculptures to life in 3D models.

Neuralangelo’s origin is pretty obvious if you pay attention to its two words: neural and Angelo. Neural pertains to the nervous system, while Angelo comes from “Michelangelo,” an Italian painter and artist who is best known for his “Sistine Chapel” art during the Renaissance period.

Enough for the history throwback, and let’s dive into the modern day. Just like the famous sculptor, Neuralangelo can create 3D structures out of 2D clips thanks to the rendering method.

According to Creative Bloq, the assets that Neuralangelo produced can be used for a wide range of projects in the business and game industry.

With Nvidia’s latest AI model, your monotonous clips on your iPhone can now transform into game worlds. Artificial intelligence will get the measurement of the object before projecting its 3D presentation into life.

Nvidia says that Neuroangelo is derived from Instant NeRF, a previous AI technology that allows artists and designers to recreate everything in 3D. It also captures even the smallest details of the subject before releasing its 3D version.

What’s amazing about Neuralangelo is how it meticulously gathers the data, including the object’s color variations and texture. It’s impressive to know that even the trickiest parts of the body of a human sculpture are detected in the process.

Nvidia notes that this AI model “significantly surpasses the prior methods,” and it’s even useful for smartphone users. The company’s Research team says that within a couple of hours, the 3D scenes are already produced.

Neuralangelo Will Greatly Help the Creators

Some people are wondering if Nvidia’s AI will replace real-life artists. According to the company’s senior director of research Ming-Yu Liu, it will just hasten the workload of the creatives in the industry by allowing them to easily reconstruct a subject or a world into a digital environment.

This tool will eventually enable developers to import detailed objects – whether small statues or massive buildings – into virtual environments for video games or industrial digital twins,” Liu said in a press statement.

The Nvidia Research team is scheduled to present Neuralangelo on June 8 to 22 in Vancouver as part of the upcoming Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition event.

Nvidia knows the limitless capability of Neuralangelo, which is not applicable in video games. It can also bring towering improvements in the field of architecture, robotics, and VR-related ventures.
