(BPRW) DABO Celebrates 46 Years of Service with Annual State of the Race Events

(Tech Zone Daily) DETROIT – DABO Inc., formerly known as The Detroit Association of Black Organizations, proudly announces the celebration of its 46th anniversary, marking over four decades of unwavering commitment to empowering the Detroit community. Founded in 1979, DABO has remained a steadfast force in metro Detroit, promoting self-sufficiency, health, and wellness through transformative programs and a powerful network of over 130 member organizations.

As part of this milestone, DABO will host its signature event, the 46th Annual State of the Race, April 17–19, 2025. This multi-day celebration highlights both the resilience and brilliance of the Detroit community while raising critical funds to support DABO’s vital programming. With over 130 member organizations in its network, DABO continues to build a better Detroit through education, empowerment, and engagement.

“The State of the Race is more than an event—it’s a movement,” said Rev. Horace Sheffield III, Executive Director of DABO. “For 46 years, we’ve brought people together to inform, inspire, and ignite change. As we look toward the future, our commitment to community unity, empowerment, and opportunity remains stronger than ever.”

This year’s State of the Race lineup includes:

  • April 17 – Comedy show featuring Don “DC” Curry and Henry Welch
    • Time: 7 p.m.
    • Location: Bridge Center Library, 9928 Grand River Ave., Detroit, MI 48204
    • Admission is free and open to the public.
  • April 19 – Community forum: “Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders”
    • Time: 11 a.m.
    • Location: Bridge Center, 9928 Grand River Ave., Detroit, MI
    • This year’s forum will feature a keynote address by former MSNBC correspondent Joy-Ann Reid, known for her sharp insights and commentary on pressing national issues. The forum unites thought leaders, activists and community members to explore actionable strategies for cultivating the next generation of leaders.
    • Admission is free and open to the public.
  • April 19 – Neosoulsations concert starring Grammy Award-winning singer Chrisette Michele, celebrated R&B duo Kindred the Family Soul, and featuring a special guest appearance by comedian Bruce Bruce
    • Time: 8 p.m.
    • Location: Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, 350 Madison St., Detroit, MI
