(Tech Zone Daily) African Film Festival, Inc. (AFF) celebrates the 33rd edition of the New York African Film Festival (NYAFF33) this May. Convened under the theme As the Stars Sow the Earth, the festival venerates cosmic agents—Ancestors, Spirit, God(s)—that have sown memory, will, and possibility into Africa and her Diasporas. Over the years, African people across the world have transformed seemingly impossible conditions into grounds for cultural, political, ecological, and aesthetic life, and this year’s festival explores these miraculous and inventive ways of sustaining life and imagination.
NYAFF33 will present over 100 contemporary and classic films from Africa and its Diasporas, offering a wide-ranging reflection of stories, perspectives, and possibilities across the continent and beyond. The festival will take place at multiple venues: The Africa Center (Townhall) on May 1, Film at Lincoln Center from May 6 – 12, Maysles Cinema from May 15 – 17, Brooklyn Academy of Music from May 22 – 28, and an outdoor finale at St. Nicholas Park on May 30.
The full festival line-up of screenings and events will be announced soon.
