Google Docs Voice Typing Update

Google Docs is getting a new update that improves its Voice Typing feature, as per a report by 9to5 Google.

It is worth noting that the word-processing platform of the search giant has been offering its users a Voice Typing function since 2015. It allows them to transcribe audio into text sans the tedious and time-consuming process of manually jotting down each word.

However, the said feature is a bit inaccurate at times. So users could not rely on it entirely for transcribing tasks.

But this time, 9to5 Google reports that the search giant is now gearing up to roll out a new update that refines the feature.

Voice Typing is About To Be More Accurate (Finally)

The new update reportedly “minimize lost audio” and “reduce transcription errors,” Google notes in its latest Workspace Updates blog post.

The giant firm did not explain the extent of the upcoming improvements. So it remains to be seen how much this helps overall until it starts rolling out. But the tech giant says it should improve the transcription quality of the voice typing feature on Docs.

On top of that, improved transcription accuracy is also coming to Google Slides. Given that it does not have a Voice Typing function, the update applies to its “automatic captions” feature.

Once it is out, viewers of presentations could potentially read a more accurate subtitle.

The renowned tech firm says that “we hope this launch leads to more inclusive and accessible user interactions within Docs and Slides.”

The next update is reportedly coming out in February. It will not only be available to paying Workspace members, but it is also rolling out to free users.

Voice Typing Expands to More Browsers

Apart from the refinements on Voice Typing, the feature, which is currently exclusive to Chrome, is on its way to more web browsers.

Google reveals that the feature is getting “expanded availability to most major browsers.”

So expect the transcription function to reach out to browsers other than Chrome, such as Apple’s Safari.
