Microsoft Overhauls Weather App for Windows 10, 11 but with a Slew of Recommended Content

Microsoft recently updated its Weather app for Windows 10 and 11, which the tech company has mostly ignored for some time.

The MSN Weather app (version 4.53.5109 and newer) offers a redesigned home page with tabs that allow users to simply check the forecast for their favorite areas.

What’s new? What’s gone?

Neowin tells us that the app now features new information blocks like “Suggestions for your day,” which provide users with forecast-based recommendations.

What is the purpose of the feature? The app will inform users if they need to carry an umbrella or advise them on what type of clothing to wear, as well as wind safety precautions and other information such as UV indicators and even suggestions if it is best to do outdoor activities.

Unfortunately, Neowin also reported that the air quality indicator was lost during the application’s upgrade, so users may no longer use the MSN Weather app to check the AQI for their location. It is, however, still available on the MSN Weather page.

What’s with the MSN News Integration?

Compared to the previous version, the updated app now provides a mass of recommended material on every page. Users will see the MSN News stream as they scroll down, which has a reputation for giving customers problematic content.

Futurism reported in December 2022 that MSN has been detected a number of times delivering a variety of phony and destructive news after replacing human staff with AI.

On the other hand, this new feed focuses entirely on weather reports, so it does not try to cram internet hoaxes and fake news down the feed.

Changes to the Weather App

The MSN Weather app for Windows 10 and 11 now resembles the web-based interface. ForecastWatch recently named it the best accurate prediction provider.

Yet, some users may say that the service’s user interface could be more user-friendly, especially given the growing amount of recommended content.

What People Can Expect

While some may consider these changes a welcome addition to the application, Microsoft has been caught in the past few years attempting to embed advertisements directly beneath your start button.

It is extremely likely that, with a concentration on weather news, the weather app will soon become the same thing. With the recent release of Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing chat, we may anticipate additional features from the tech giant.

According to TechRadar, these ad tactics are unfair to Microsoft consumers who paid for the services just to be blasted with advertisements. Fair point.

Overall, the redesigned MSN Weather app for Windows 10 and 11 is a substantial boost, giving users with more detailed weather information.

However, the app’s recommended material may not appeal to everyone, and the UI may be difficult to use. Despite this, the app is still one of the most accurate weather forecast providers on the market.
