Play PC Games on Your Android Phone With This App!

-

Android phone owners out there can now play their favorite PC games on the go.

Imagine immersing yourself in your favorite PC game titles while you wait for your coffee or on those long train commutes. Guess what? That can now be a reality with this new app called Winlator!

Winlator: How It Works

As AndroidAuthority reports, Winlator is essentially a user-friendly package that bundles together two powerful tools: Box and Wine.

Box lets you run x86 programs on Arm devices, and Wine allows you to run Windows apps on Linux. By combining these tools into one neat package, Winlator makes the whole process a breeze.

Setting up the app is more straightforward than nailing a headshot in your favorite FPS game. Here is the lowdown from Reddit user Denisthearchelord.

Installing Winlator

Head over to GitHub to download the APK and OBB image files. Rest assured that downloading the software is completely secure, but you can always run a fast scan to be sure.

Install the APK on your Android phone, but hold up! Before you dive right in, make sure you grant the necessary permissions. Once you have done that, exit the app.

Now, it is time to move the OBB image file to the Android/OBB directory. If you are using Android 11 or higher, you will need an app to navigate to this folder.

Relaunch the app and let it work its magic. It will install the OBB image, and then you are almost ready to roll.

Next, create a container within the app. This step involves choosing your preferred display resolution, drivers, and other settings. The default folder for placing your games is the Downloads folder, making life a bit easier for you.

Remember, your Downloads folder is your D: Drive. So, if your game files are on your PC’s C: Drive, just move them over to your phone’s Downloads folder.

Last but not least, if you want quick access to your games, make some shortcuts to your desktop via the App menu. It’ll save you precious seconds when you’re eager to jump right into the action.

What Can You Play With Winlator?

Winlator might not handle every PC game under the sun flawlessly, but it can handle quite a few like a pro. AndroidAuthority took it for a spin, and here are some of their highlights:

Deus Ex: Smooth performance.

Hitman 2: Variable but playable frame rate.

Undertale: Mostly playable with a few slideshow moments.

Far Cry 2: The intro worked like a charm, but the game crashed after a few minutes.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: Booted up fine, but graphical glitches during gameplay might distract some players.

Here is someone playing Oblivion with Winlator. Check it out!
