According to the story by Ars Technica, Reddit is still trying to publicly repair its relationships with moderators after it decided to make a huge change which would’ve placed mods at a disadvantage. Despite the efforts, it was reported that there was still a lot of skepticism from moderators.
As noted in a recent post, a Reddit employee shared how the company was extending efforts to repair the relationship. This included outreaches and weekly feedback sessions as the platform is trying to fix the relationship.
Reddit has over 50,000 volunteer mods and it’s now hoping to repair the relationship with them. This can be seen as Reddit admin Go_JasonWaterfalls, with the title Reddit VP of Community, acknowledging that the relationship between mods have been shattered.

This comes as the modes spent thousands of hours providing free labor just to suddenly be met with Reddit’s API pricing. In response to the protest, Reddit has reportedly ousted some moderators from the post.
Another move that really affected the moderator community was how some subreddits that had been labeled “not safe for work” were forced to return to “safe for work” while they felt the threat of having to forcibly reopen the subreddits that were previously private.
Go_JasonWaterfalls emphasized the Weekly Mod Feedback Sessions, which would happen every Tuesday and Thursday through October and are expected to add value to the platform’s future. To participate, Redditors needed to fill out a form.
Mod Council and Partner Communities Program are having In-Person Events in Different Countries
The admin also highlighted the Mod Council and the Reddit Partner Communities program, which would take place monthly for the Accessibility Feedback Group. These events were also expected to happen in-person in places like France, India, Brazil, US, Canada, and England.
Moderators, on the other hand, shared how they’ve been traumatized over the past couple of months and that they only have low expectations for the company’s efforts. Ars Technica reportedly spoke with certain mods that participated in the feedback sessions as they shared mixed results in response to mod critiques and suggestions.

Many Third-Party Apps have Started to Shut Down as a Result of Reddit’s API Pricing
A famous mod for multiple subreddits, Alyssa Videlock, noted that the Reddit Mod Council has chosen whether to listen to moderators or not and that sometimes they do but “most times they don’t.” So far, Reddit has decided not to give way to any of the mods’ demands, which focus on things like better API pricing or extended adjustment periods.
Upon implementation of the API pricing changes on July 1, it was reported that there were many third-party apps that started closing down.
