This detail was shared by the streaming giant’s CEO, Daniel Ek, during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Apr. 25.
During the meeting, Ek said that the industry’s concerns about AI-created songs are legitimate.
Among the concerns he highlighted are names used by AI, the similarities of AI-generated songs to the original versions, and who owns the right to publish those AI-generated songs.
Spotify’s Efforts Against AI-Generated Songs
According to Business Insider‘s latest report, Daniel Ek announced that Spotify is already working with its partners to protect creators against AI-generated music.

The streaming platform’s CEO explained that they are establishing a position where they can protect their creators while allowing innovations to happen in Spotify.
He shared these details after the Universal Music Group, the largest record company, asked Apple and Spotify to ban AI companies from taking advantage of melodies and lyrics from its material under copyright.
UMG also stated that artificial intelligence firms should not be allowed to train their AI generative models on Universal’s catalog.
Spotify CEO Says AI Could Also Be Beneficial
Via TechCrunch‘s report, Spotify’s CEO said that the AI progress in the music industry could be both cool and scary.
For example, Ek provided an update regarding their new AI DJ feature, which provides personalized music selections.
This AI enhancement allows users to have a better music streaming experience.
“First off, let’s acknowledge that this is an incredibly fast-moving and developing space,” said Daniel.
“I don’t think in my history with technology I’ve ever seen anything moving as fast as the development of AI currently is at the moment,” he added.
