Spotify Service Restored for Millions of Users Worldwide Following Brief Outage

-

On Wednesday, April 19, millions of Spotify users around the world experienced a brief outage, causing significant disruptions to the popular audio streaming service, Reuters reports.

The company confirmed that most users’ service had been restored.

Thousands of Users Reported Spotify Outage

While Spotify did not provide an exact number of users affected by the outage, the outage tracking website Downdetector.com reported over 20,000 incidents in the US and over 8,000 in the UK at the height of the outage.

Downdetector tracks outages on its platform by aggregating status reports from various sources, including user-submitted errors.

Many users took to social media to complain about the outage and express their displeasure. Twitter was flooded with service disruption updates and memes, with ‘Spotify’ trending in the United States.

SpotifyCares updated its users on the service disruption via Twitter, saying, “Everything’s looking much better now!” The company provided no information about the cause of the outage.

A History of Spotify Outages

This is not the first time Spotify has experienced downtime. When Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” album was released in October 2022, Spotify experienced massive traffic, and thousands of users reported outages around the world.

On January 2022, the app experienced a similar problem. According to the platform, the outage was not “limited to the Spotify website. The Spotify app on different platforms is also affected.”

Spotify has become a necessity for millions worldwide, providing an extensive music library, personalized playlists, and podcasts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the service saw a significant increase in usage, with more people working from home and looking for entertainment options.

However, the recent outages, as well as some questionable content, have prompted users to question the platform’s dependability, and some have considered switching to alternative music streaming services.

Latest from Spotify

Spotify has announced that you can now use BeReal’s double-sided camera feature to share what you’re listening to on the music streaming app. This Spotify integration will add another layer of authentic personalization and connection to users’ BeReal experiences.

Users can connect their Spotify and BeReal accounts by tapping on the music icon before posting their BeReal or by going to “Settings” and then “Music” within the BeReal app.

BeReal will automatically pull in the song or podcast the user listens to on Spotify when they capture a BeReal once connected. The audio cover art will appear at the bottom of the camera lens.

Spotify’s integration into BeReal is a thrilling boost to the social media platform. Users can further personalize their BeReal experience and connect with friends over their love of music and podcasts by combining audio from Spotify with BeReal’s focus on capturing and sharing authentic moments.

BeReal and Spotify users in select markets, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, and the United States, can now benefit from this integration.
