WhatsApp launches its new feature to bypass internet censors through its proxy server feature.
In our daily routine of work and life, one of the world’s most widely used messaging apps, WhatsApp, frequently acts as a vital communication route. However, as more governments and security agencies try to regulate information flow differently, it may also be disrupted, preventing people from receiving crucial updates.
As a result, certain nations, including the United States, are also dissatisfied with WhatsApp’s decision to include a backdoor in case of restrictions and obstructions. However, Meta thinks that because of their efforts, this is an important service.
Due to the demand for flexibility, WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart explained a new feature in a series of tweets, which was expounded in an official WhatsApp Blog Post.
“While many of us celebrated by texting our loved ones on WA, there are millions of people in Iran and elsewhere who continue to be denied the right to communicate freely and privately. So today we’re making it easier for anyone to connect to WA using a proxy.”
WhatsApp Launches Proxy Support
According to Indian Express, WhatsApp, a messaging service owned by Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, revealed that its users will be able to use a new proxy server feature.
Users of WhatsApp will be able to access the service in nations where the app has been restricted by using the feature’s proxy servers.
A proxy server acts as a conduit for users to access the internet. It has its own IP address, and in this instance, traffic from a computer or mobile device will be routed through that server to access a specific service. Proxy servers are frequently employed to get around network restrictions on some websites.

How To Bypass Internet Censors With Proxy Server Feature
If WhatsApp is restricted in a nation, employing proxy access would allow users to access the service. The new functionality will ensure that everyone may connect to WhatsApp via servers put up by volunteers and organizations.
According to WhatsApp’s FAQ page, WhatsApp also advises that these proxy server addresses should be privately shared with users who cannot connect directly to the platform. Organizations or users “can set up a proxy using a server with ports 80, 443 or 5222 available and a domain name (or subdomain) that points to the server’s IP address.” This protects the proxy server’s privacy as well.
Users can follow these steps to set up a proxy on their respective devices.
Android users:
- Make sure you are using the most current version of WhatsApp.
- In the Chats tab, tap More options > Settings.
- Tap Storage and Data > Proxy.
- Tap Use Proxy.
- Tap Set Proxy and enter the proxy address.
- Tap Save.
- A check mark will show if the connection is successful.
- If you can still not send or receive WhatsApp messages using a proxy, that proxy may have been blocked. You can long-press the blocked proxy address to delete it, then enter a new proxy address to try again.
iPhone users:
- Make sure you are using the most current version of WhatsApp.
- Go to WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Storage and Data > Proxy.
- Tap Use Proxy.
- Enter the proxy address, and tap Save to connect.
- A check mark will show if the connection is successful.
- If you are still unable to send or receive WhatsApp messages using a proxy, that proxy may have been blocked. Try again using a different proxy address.
